Culinary Arts Overview

The School of Culinary Arts prepares students with the skills and knowledge necessary for an exciting career in the growing food service industry. Students learn through hands-on training utilizing the latest technology in fully equipped kitchen labs. The diverse faculty of chefs brings many years of experience at the executive chef level.

The School of Culinary Arts is home to Okmulgee’s finest restaurants, the State Room and the Tech Room. Students gain valuable experience operating these two restaurants, which are open to the public. Known for famous grand buffets, visitors come from all over the region just to enjoy the unique dining experience operated by students in the School of Culinary Arts.

Because the State Room and Tech Room operate around class schedules, reservations are highly recommended.

At OSUIT, students gain hands-on experience in real-world learning environments, with a diverse and experienced faculty of professional chefs, proven teaching methods, a low student-to-faculty ratio, and multiple internship opportunities.

Over the past decade, America has developed a fascination with the culinary arts. Primetime shows like Top Chef and Hell’s Kitchen, as well as celebrity chefs including Rachael Ray, Anthony Bourdain, and Jamie Oliver, have led to the advent of entire television networks that offer both entertainment and education on hospitality management.

Fine dining is enjoying a resurgence and is changing the way hotels, cruise lines, and vacation resorts deliver legendary experiences while offering fantastic career opportunities for School of Culinary Arts graduates. Recent graduates are well prepared to begin their career with a solid foundation in the skills and knowledge necessary for success.

Culinary Arts Programs

Associate in Applied Science

The Associate in Applied Science in Culinary Arts is a 90-credit hour program typically completed within two years. As a part of this curriculum, all students will complete an industry internship and prepare a portfolio. The culinary courses will inspire you to turn your passion into a lifelong career.

Culinary Certificates I & II

We are now offering two stackable culinary certificates for students sponsored by employers in need of skilled culinary staff. The fast-track culinary certificates require students to be on campus for two weeks of intense coursework—dubbed culinary boot camp—with the remaining classes being offered online. Each also requires a paid internship.
