Q&A - September 22, 2017

“Outstanding” is not a word I use lightly. For those of you who read this column regularly, you will recall I have previously mentioned that OSUIT has many outstanding faculty and staff members, and I’ve even cited some specific examples. Well, this week I would like to tell you about three more outstanding faculty and staff members from our campus.

Q: Which employees did the OSUIT Faculty/Staff Council honor this year?

Each year, the OSUIT Faculty/Staff Council solicits nominations for three distinguished and celebrated recognitions: Outstanding Faculty Member, Outstanding Professional Staff Member, and Outstanding Classified Staff Member. It’s an honor just to be nominated by your peers for such an award, but to win is truly a privileged distinction.

This year’s Outstanding Faculty Member is Jamie Diggins, who holds a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from East Central University and a Master of Science in Nursing Education from Southern Nazarene University, where she was also recognized as a Distinguished Student.

Jamie has 22 years of nursing experience in a variety of healthcare settings and 16 years of teaching experience. Before joining the nursing faculty at OSUIT three years ago, Jamie taught secondary sciences and nursing courses in a practical nursing program. She now teaches “Foundations of Nursing Practice” in the School of Nursing & Health Sciences. She obtained a National Board Teaching Certification in Adolescence and Young Adulthood Science and has been recognized in “Who’s Who Among American Teachers” for three years.

Then there is Steven “Bo” Hudson, who is this year’s Outstanding Professional Staff Member. Bo has been with OSUIT for 10 years and currently serves as the Director of Residential Life and Chief Conduct Officer. During his career, he has been actively involved with several professional organizations including: the Southwest Association of College & University Housing Officers, the Association for Student Conduct Administration, and the National Behavioral Intervention Team Association.

Bo received a Bachelor of Arts degree in History from Henderson State University where he also served as a Peer Advisor and helped new students navigate their first year. Bo continues to help students today by advising OSUIT students about their individual social responsibilities both in the community and in the workplace.

And finally, the Outstanding Classified Staff Member this year is Eric Covey. Eric is the Public Relations Coordinator for OSUIT and works within the Office of Marketing & Communications—a position he has held for 4 years. He received an Associate in Arts degree in Journalism from Tulsa Community College and a Bachelor of Arts in Mass Communications/Public Relations from Northeastern State University.

Eric’s passion for public relations lies in higher education and the pursuit of civic loyalty and community engagement. Fittingly, he was selected as one of “The Tulsa 40 under 40” by the Tulsa Business Journal and Tulsa World in 2016. He has also pursued leadership engagements by completing Leadership Okmulgee in 2016 and most recently Leadership Bixby in 2017.

These three individuals are fine examples of the top-notch faculty and staff we have at OSUIT, and they are each truly “outstanding.”
