Interlibrary Loan Policy

Please read the Interlibrary Loan Policy below before filling out an Interlibrary Loan Request form.

Books and serials not found in our collection may be obtained through our Interlibrary Loan service. Through the use of interlibrary loans, many more resources are available to the researcher. Patrons in good standing with the OSU Institute of Technology Library have access to this service. The guidelines for using this service are outlined below.

Items may be picked up at the library circulation desk. If you are an online student, we will mail the material to you. Be sure to include your mailing address on the ILL Request Form. Materials should be returned promptly on the due date so we may return it to the lending library by the date they have stipulated.

  • Videos and DVDs

Materials That May Not Be Borrowed

Borrowing Limit

No more than three items may be borrowed at any given time. No more than three articles may be requested at one time, unless approved by the Library Director.

Expected Time of Delivery

It may take up to two weeks for the requested materials to be received. If a book is owned by OSU-Stillwater, it may come within a few days, but it is not guaranteed. An article may arrive via fax within two or three days. Please expect most items to arrive one week after they are requested. Response time depends on the location of the material and the promptness of the lending library.

Loan Period

The loan period will vary according to the lending library. Loan periods are usually for four weeks but may be anywhere from two to six weeks in length.

Renewal

If you need to keep a book past the date allowed, please contact us as soon as possible to arrange it with the lending library. Interlibrary loans are renewed at the discretion of the lending library.

Overdue Materials

A charge of $1.00 per day will be assessed for overdue materials. Overdue fines will continue to be added until the item is returned.

Lost and Damaged Items

Patrons are responsible for any lost or damaged materials. Charges will be assessed by the lending library.

Borrowing Costs

Typically, there are no charges for ILL services. You will be notified before we accept the lenders proposed charge.

Notification of Arrival of Materials

You will be notified by phone or e-mail within 24 hours of receipt of materials.

Material Pickup

All ILL materials may be picked up at the Circulation Desk. If you are an online student, we will mail the material to you. Be sure to include your mailing address on the ILL Request Form.

Returning Materials

All materials should be returned to the Circulation Desk. Please notify the staff that you are returning an ILL item. If you are an online student, please mail the material back to us, using the enclosed return address label. Be sure to mail the material back a couple of days prior to the actual due date to avoid late fines.

Copyright Restrictions

The copyright law of the United States (Title 17, United States Code) governs the making of photocopies or other reproductions of copyright materials. Under certain conditions specified in the law, libraries and archives are authorized to furnish a photocopy or other reproduction. One of these specified conditions is that the photocopy is not to be “used for any purpose other than private study, scholarship, or research.” If a user makes a request for, or later uses a photocopy or reproduction for purposes in excess of “fair use” that user may be liable for copyright infringement. The Learning Resource Center of OSU Institute of Technology reserves the right to refuse to accept an Interlibrary request. This will occur if the request may involve violation of the copyright law.
